Hear ye, hear ye, peasants! Netflix spent the long Labor Day weekend teasing the sixth and final season of its regal Emmy-winning hit The Crown. Namely, Netflix confirmed that The Crown Season 6 will indeed show us the long-awaited nuptials of the current King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Not only that, but Netflix finally confirmed what many TV fans hoped: The Crown Season 6 will premiere in 2023.

The Crown first premiered all the way back in 2016 and focused on how the private lives of young Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy), Prince Phillip (Matt Smith), and Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby) crashed against the public duties of the monarchy. The Crown immediately became an awards season darling, snatching up Emmys and launching the careers of several of its young stars. In Season 3, The Crown switched its cast up, replacing Clarie Foy with Oscar-winner Olivia Colman, Matt Smith with Tobias Menzies, and Vanessa Kirby with Helena Bonham-Carter. Showrunner Peter Morgan’s plan was that each season would encompass about a decade of drama and that the actors would therefore have to be recast with older performers every two seasons. In The Crown‘s sixth and final season, Imelda Staunton wears Queen Elizabeth II’s crown, Dominic West is Prince Charles, and Olivia Williams plays his long-time mistress/bride-to-be/future queen Camilla.

Early on Labor Day, Netflix unveiled a sneak peek at the royal wedding invitation on X, the app formerly known as Twitter. The streaming service also confirmed that The Crown Season 6 will premiere later this year.

Of course, The Crown Season 6 isn’t just going to tackle Charles and Camilla’s happy day. The final season of the royal drama is also set to depict the tragic death of Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and her lover Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla). In happier news, however, The Crown Season 6 will also delve into the early days of Prince William’s (Ed McVey) romance with St. Andrews classmate Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy).

The Crown creator Peter Morgan teased on the official podcast for the series last year that the arrival of the young royals bring a welcome jolt of drama: “You want to see them. It happened in the read through. You could just see everyone was looking up and looking at each other across the room. And every time William spoke, it was like, ‘Oh my God, this is just riveting.’ “

The Crown Season 6 will premiere on Netflix sometime in late 2023.
