‘Elemental’ Lands on Digital, But When Will the Pixar Movie Be on Disney+?

If you missed the new Pixar movie Elemental in theaters, there’s no need to fret, because the Elemental digital release date is tomorrow. Yes, it’s true, as of August 15, you will be able to purchase Elemental online and watch the movie at home.

Directed by Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur), with a screenplay by John Hoberg, Kat Likkel, and Brenda Hsueh, Elemental is a love story about an anthropomorphic fire element named Ember (voiced by Leah Lewis) and her anthropomorphic ice element counterpart named Wade (Mamoudou Athie). Elemental wasn’t as well-loved by critics as Pixar’s previous films, but the film managed to pull off a solid $443 million at the worldwide box office, versus a production budget of $200 million. No one can argue that the film wasn’t a financial success.

Now, Disney hopes to make a few more bucks with the “premium” video-on-demand release of Elemental. Here’s how you can watch Elemental online, and when to expect Elemental streaming on Disney+.

Where to watch Elemental on streaming:

Beginning on Tuesday, August 15 Elemental will be available to buy digitally on Amazon Prime, Google Play, Apple TV, Vudu, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime and Vudu the movie costs $19.99 to buy.

Elemental will also be available to buy on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 26. The movie is not yet available to rent on digital platforms.

When will Elemental be streaming on Disney Plus?

UPDATE 9/6/2023: Elemental will begin streaming on Disney+ on September 13.

Elemental will likely be on Disney+ before the end of the year, because it is a Disney movie. All of the new Disney theatrical movies end up streaming on Disney+, often about three months in theaters, and about a month on digital. The Little Mermaid opened in theaters on May 26, was released digitally on July 25, and will be streaming on Disney+ on September 6. (The movie will release on DVD on September 19.)

If Elemental follows a similar release strategy, we can expect to see Elemental on Disney+ in late September, either on or before September 26, which is the day that movie will be released on DVD.

That said, the Elemental Disney+ release date has not yet officially been announced. This is all guesswork, so take it with a grain of salt. For now, if you’re dying to watch Elemental at home, you can buy a digital copy of the movie.
