Writer, actor, comedian – what can’t Kitty Flanagan do? The Australian performer is getting her flowers internationally after Netflix uploaded the first season of her comedy series Fisk onto the streaming platform. Now, Flanagan is quickly becoming the internet’s latest obsession.

Created by Flanagan and Marty Sheargold, Fisk is a workplace comedy that follows lawyer Helen Tudor-Fisk (Flanagan) as she lands a new job at a law firm called Gruber & Gruber after being fired by her previous employer for attacking a client.

Helen is smart and capable. However, she has a “cut the nonsense” attitude that sometimes rubs her clients the wrong way. Throughout the series, the lawyer struggles to balance her chaotic personal life – which involves a noisy landlord and a fresh divorce – with her high-demand professional life and her quirky clients.

What’s so great about the series is that it refuses to pull back its punches. The first episode features an odd artist who paints portraits with his penis, along with Helen making fun of the younger generation for their oversensitivity.

The show’s no-shits-given approach to comedy parallels Flanagan’s real-life stand-up routines, which comes as no surprise as she co-writes the show with her sister, Penny Flanagan, and Shergold. And while this form of comedy easily takes off overseas, it tends to be a hit-or-miss within the States. Though, Fisk is defying all odds and is charting Netflix’s Top 10 list, drawing all eyes to Flanagan.

In the brief week since the show was uploaded to the streamer, fans have expressed their approval on social media. “#Netflix! When can we see season 2 of #Fisk? This show is so funny, and Kitty Flanagan is brilliant. Can’t wait for more episodes,” wrote one fan. “Loving seeing America loves #Fisk as much as we do! Kitty is a funny funny lady and I’m glad the US is catching on,” penned another.

New fans will be thrilled to find out that Flanagan has a stacked resume – both on screen and on stage – and there are many more laughs to chase after binging the Aussie show. The comedian and actor regularly frequents Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland and Just For Laughs in Montreal, Canada.

Flanagan is currently touring Australia with her latest comedy set – which her co-worker Julia Zemiro suspects might be the reason behind the hold-up for Fisk Season 3.

If Flanagan isn’t coming to a city near you, no worries. The comedian has over 40 videos on her YouTube channel which highlight her best performances. Unfortunately, if you prefer her scripted shows, Flanagan’s other series, Utopia, is no longer streaming on Netflix after being added to the platform in 2015. As of now, there’s no way to stream the show outside of Australia – much like Fisk Season 2.

But with Fisk and Flanagan’s growing popularity in the United States, never say never!
