We’re not the only ones getting used to Whoopi Goldberg‘s new glasses-free look. During today’s episode of The View, guest LeVar Burton and his daughter Mica Burton were just as shocked when they realized what was different about the longtime moderator’s appearance.

The duo dropped by the hit daytime talk show to promote Star Trek: Picard, in which LeVar — who began his Star Trek journey in 1986 — reprises his role as Geordi, and Mica stars as his daughter. While Geordi was born blind, he was always known for sporting the iconic VISOR that helped him see — something he no longer wears.

“We always talked about how the way Geordi’s VISOR was one of the ways we telegraphed the sophisticated nature of the technology in the 24th century,” LeVar explained. “But it really became important to me after a while to just — we’re in the 24th century. Can’t we put that technology in an ocular implant? And so we did.”

Meanwhile, Goldberg pointed out that she “has one” and that she got it “done last week” to which a confused LeVar stared at her until she said, “You think I was kidding, I’m [serious]. I’m not wearing glasses, babe.”

When he finally put two and two together, he exclaimed, “Wow! That’s what’s different about you! Oh, my god.”

The moderator went on to explain that she had the lens replaced in her one eye — something everyday View watchers heard all about earlier this week — to which Sara Haines quipped, “She can see through walls now. It was a really good surgeon.”

Goldberg revealed, “When everyone was here last time, I tried to read the monitor without my glasses and I couldn’t. And I was so upset,” before throwing her arms up and adding, “When we came back on Monday, I was like, ‘Wa-pow!'”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
