New Movies On Streaming: ‘Infinity Pool,’ ‘Maybe I Do,’ + More

There are those of us who just want to live life in the bubble of feel-good rom-coms and those of us who like to watch movies that make us feel uncomfortable. This weekend, we all get what we want. If you want a non-threatening, entertaining rom-com for the weekend, Maybe I Do, is one of the new releases on VOD this that offers some charming, escapist fun. The comedy is about a young couple (Luke Bracey and Emma Roberts) whose plan to introduce their parents to each other backfires when they realize that – spoiler alert – their parents have had an affair. But if you want a double feature of discomfort, might I suggest you dive into Infinity Pool, the latest unsettling horror starring Mia Goth, paired with Significant Other, the Paramount+ original which is now available on demand?

Both films are considered sci-fi horror, and while Infinity Pool focuses on humans using cloning for bizarre, evil purposes (more on that below), Significant Other features aliens using cloning for bizarre, evil purpose, like taking over the world. In the latter film, Jake Lacy and Maika Monroe star as a couple who take a camping trip and encounter a mysterious, alien substance in a cave. That substance, and the beings that placed it there, threaten not only their already-fragile relationship, but the entire human race, once they realize what it actually can do.

These are just a few of the titles that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now!

Infinity Pool

If David Cronenberg is a master of body horror, his son Brandon is taking that to the next level by cloning the bodies for double the horror. Infinity Pool is the newest film from the younger Cronenberg, which Alexander Skarsgård as a writer named James who accidentally kills a man while vacationing on a bizarre little island. The punishment for the crime in this strange place? Execution or, if you’re rich enough, pay to have a clone of yourself made and they’ll get killed instead. Mia Goth co-stars as a fellow tourist who chose this destination for this very reason and gets off on the clone murder.

Maybe I Do

Maybe I Do writer-director Michael Jacobs is probably best known for creating the sitcom Boy Meets World, but back in the 1970s, he penned a play called Cheaters which, despite a very fleeting stage run on Broadway, he’s renamed and turned into this star-studded rom-com feature featuring Susan Sarandon, Richard Gere, Diane Keaton, and William H. Macy. In the film, Gere and Sarandon play adulterous lovers Howard and Monica, each of them is cheating on their spouses played by Keaton and Macy. Things become complicated and uncomfortable when young couple Allen and Michelle (Bracey and Roberts), invite their two sets of parents over for an introductory meal, only to learn that, yes, Allen’s dad is Howard, and he has been shtuppiung Michelle’s mom Monica. If Diane Keaton hadn’t already starred in a movie called It’s Complicated, we would have suggested that as a title for this film filled with romantic cris-crosses and tangled webs woven out of deception.
