Decider After Dark

‘Infinity Pool’ Shocks Sundance With NC-17 Images Of Drug-Fueled Orgies, Ejaculation, And Adult Breastfeeding

The provocative horror movie Infinity Pool was all the talk this weekend after it premiered on Saturday (Jan. 22) at the Sundance Film Festival. Not only are critics shocked by the movie’s “drug-fueled orgies,” adult breastfeeding, and other explicit scenes, but Alexander Skarsgard also kept the conversation going by wearing a leather collar during the red carpet.

Brandon Cronenberg’s new movie follows a couple on vacation who find themselves face-to-face with their worst nightmare, teased in the synopsis as “violence, hedonism, and untold horror.”

As the story unfolds, they are convicted of a crime and presented with two options: be executed or watch a version of themselves die instead.

First look reviews tease heavy gore and graphic nudity, which has earned the movie an NC-17 rating. One film critic called the movie an “orgasmic hedonistic vacation from hell” and said it was “gloriously perverse.” Another referred to it as a “psychedelic orgy.”

The Hollywood Reporter wrote that the movie features “envelope-pushing” scenes including a close-up handjob, “drug-filled orgies,” and a scene where Skarsgard is breastfed by Mia Goth.

After the screening, Skarsgard said in a Q&A, “There’s a lot of conformity and monotony when you read scripts. You’ve just seen the movie. It’s just crazy, crazy […] Love it or hate it, but it’s rare to experience something like this as an actor,” per THR. When asked to recall the most memorable day from filming, the actor answered, “Fighting a naked version of myself to the death and then being breastfed by Mia. That’s not something you get to do very often as an actor.”

While Skarsgard clearly has some unforgettable scenes in the film, he also made a splash on the red carpet, donning “the official Infinity Pool dog collar and leash” (which doesn’t seem to be merch yet, I checked).

Fans instantly lost their mind, Vulture included – who wrote, “Alexander Skarsgård you will always be famous.” Another tweeted that the actor is “exuberantly slutty and has been since his True Blood days.”

Infinity Pool will be released by Neon in the United States on Jan. 27 and continues to screen in person at the Sundance Film Festival until Jan. 29.
