Netflix Debuts Nicolas Winding Refn’s ‘Copenhagen Cowboy’ Trailer In Venice

Netflix has debuted the first teaser trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Copenhagen Cowboy series at Venice Film Festival over the weekend.

The director certainly stays true to his signature style of bloody, bright and magnificently beautiful aesthetics in the clip that has a similar vibe to some of his recent works such as Only God Forgives (2013) and The Neon Demon (2016).

Flooded with neon imagery and set to a steady techno beat, the exciting sneak peek offers little in the way of explanation. The plot is currently being kept under wraps.

Starring Angela Bundalovic, Copenhagen Cowboy centers on a naive mysterious woman named Miu who breaks free from a lifetime of servitude to carry out vengeance on Copenhagen’s criminal netherworld.

“We were stuck as a family back in Denmark and I came up with this idea,” he said, speaking to Variety about being in lockdown during the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. “It became a wonderful creative process where I was no longer living in two separate worlds as a creator by day and a family man by night. It’s a new chapter in my way of working but also in our lives.”

The Danish project is Refn’s first in his native Denmark in 15 years and also stars Refn’s daughter, Lola Corfixen, Zlatko Buric, Andreas Lykke Jørgensen, Jason Hendil-Forssell, LiIi Zhang, and Dragana Milutinovic. The series will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 9 before being released worldwide on Netflix later this year.
