‘House Of Dragons’ Star Matt Smith Says He Has Too Many Sex Scenes In HBO Series

Matt Smith, star of HBO’s forthcoming Game of Thrones spinoff series House of the Dragon, recently shared his opinion that he’s spent too much time under the sheets.

Smith, who plays Prince Daemon Targaryen on the show, told Rolling Stone UK in an interview that he has questioned whether the many sex scenes he filmed were necessary.

“You do find yourself asking, ‘Do we need another sex scene?’” said the British actor. “And they’re like, ‘Yeah, we do.’ I guess you have to ask yourself: ‘What are you doing? Are you representing the books, or are you diluting the books to represent the time [we’re living in]?’ And I actually think it’s your job to represent the books truthfully and honestly, as they were written.”

When asked his personal opinion on the number of sex scenes he had to shoot, Smith was fairly blunt.

“Yeah – slightly too much, if you ask me,” he said.

Showrunner Miguel Sapochnik had previously shared that House of the Dragon would follow a similar raw approach as its predecessor, Game of Thrones.

Smith was also asked about his opinion of the negative reception (16% on Rotten Tomatoes) that his Marvel film Morbius received.

“Yeah, it was thrown under the bus,” he said about the movie. “But you just have to roll with it. What else are you gonna do? It’s a film, at the end of the day; we’re not saving lives. For whatever reason, it didn’t quite work out and…. It is what it is.”
