How To Change Disney+ Parental Controls So Your Kids Can’t Watch ‘Deadpool’

If you thought you could give your kids free reign on Disney+, Disney’s supposedly family-friendly streaming service, here’s some bad news: The R-rated Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan are now all streaming on Disney+.

These aren’t just movies with a few curse words. The Deadpool franchise prides itself on flaunting its R-rating, with hyper-violent, blood-splattering deaths that would make the Avengers shake in their boots. In addition to countless violent deaths, f-bombs, and lewd humor, Deadpool also features a fairly explicit sex scene between leads Ryan Reynolds and Morena Baccarin. Needless to say, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick didn’t write this movie—which was released by 20th Century Fox years before the Disney acquisition in 2019—with Disney’s famous “family-friendly” attitude in mind. Logan is arguably even worse for kids—a somber R-rated tale filled not with sex jokes and gruesome, depressing violence, including a decapitation scene and themes of suicide.

Disney announced the news on Thursday, giving parents a one-day warning to revisit those Disney+ parental controls to prevent their kids from seeing things far beyond their maturity level. But this isn’t the first time Disney+ has added not-so-kid-friendly content. In March, many of the Marvel Comics TV content, including Daredevil and Jessica Jones, were added to the streamer, also featuring sex and nudity. Decider’s Marvel and Disney+ expert Brett White wrote up a comprehensive guide on how to change the Disney+ parental controls at the time, but here’s a refresher if you need one.

1. Select “Edit Profiles.”

Hover over your profile icon and select “edit profile.” Then you can choose the account that you would like to restrict.

2. Scroll down to the “Parental Control” section.

You’ll find the Parental Control section at the bottom of the page.

3. Select the content rating you feel comfortable with.

You can choose between TV-Y, for the strictest restrictions, all the way up through TV-MA, for no restrictions at all. You’ll have to enter your password to make changes.

4. Restrict adult profiles with a PIN.

This will prevent your child from simply using your account to watch that restricted content.

Et voila! Your kids now will not be able to watch Deadpool get down and dirty on Disney+, as well as other R-rated titles. Unless they figure out your PIN. Huzzah!
