Praise the gods of television for shows like First Kill. Like The Vampire Diaries before it, this Netflix horror romance based on the work of V. E. Schwab follows the law of chaos. Absolutely anything can happen at any time, so you better buckle up for this bumpy ride. That’s especially true of First Kill‘s Season 1 ending.

It’s a finale filled with so many twists that it’s begging for a Season 2. Wondering how First Kill ends? Here’s what you need to know.

What Happened to Theo in First Kill’s Finale?

That was the question of this final hour. Cal (Imani Lewis) and Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) were drawn to a bathroom where they uncovered a truly horrific sight: Apollo (Dominic Goodman) clutching the corpse of his dead brother. Immediately, Cal started to panic, but Apollo assured her there was nothing she could do. Theo (Phillip Mullings Jr.) was dead.

It was a tragic moment. So you can imagine the shock Cal and Apollo felt when they saw their definitely dead brother eating dinner with their parents. Halfway through dinner, Theo started to feel sick and excused himself from the table. That’s when things got really weird. Alone in his room, this vampire hunter screamed and writhed as he turned into a vampire.

As with most twisted things in this show, it all came back to Juliette’s sister, Elinor (Gracie Dzienny). Sick of Juliette rejecting her family as well as her status as a Legacy vampire, Elinor took matters into her own hands and killed Theo. At least, she thought she did. Elinor figured that if one of Cal’s beloved brothers was murdered by a Fairmont vampire, that would crush her sister’s chances of staying with this hunter. Ultimately, Elinor’s plan worked, but in a way that was messier then she ever intended.

Who Turned Theo into a Vampire?

As chaotic as Elinor is, she typically prefers her evil plans to be as bloody and straightforward as possible. So when Elinor attacked Theo, she assumed he would die. Enter Juliette.

Juliette found the dying Theo and drained his blood, hoping to give him a more peaceful death. But Juliette is new to this entire “full vampire” thing. Instead of killing him, she accidentally turned Theo into a vampire himself. Whoops. We’ll get back to the consequences of those good intentions in a second.

What Happened to Elinor?

Once Juliette found Elinor’s signature shade of Heart Stopper lipstick at the scene of the crime, she knew that her sister was to blame for Theo’s attack. And that was the final straw. Juliette swiped the key to Elinor’s murder locker, which was basically a box where she stored trinkets from her favorite kills. From there all Juliette had to do was give the key to her brother Oliver (Dylan McNamara), and he handled the rest.

Because of Oliver, Elinor was arrested for oh-so-many murders. But potentially putting his sister behind bars wasn’t enough. Oliver also posed as her lawyer solely so he could taunt her. When Elinor smugly said that their father would get her out of this, Oliver corrected her. There’s a very real chance that Elinor will have to face her prison sentence alone. But knowing her, she’s going to be in a cell for maybe one night, max.

What Happened to Margot and Sebastian?

For a minute, the Fairmont parents seemed almost thrilled to have Elinor behind bars. Maybe that way she could learn a lesson! But that euphoria was short lived.

Through a letter, they learned the council had launched an investigation to see if Davina is still fit to be the Keeper of this family. In the meantime, Margot (Elizabeth Mitchell) had been tapped to step up from Keeping-in-Waiting. There’s just one problem with this mandatory court appearance. Margot’s mother can’t defend herself because Sebastian (Will Swenson) already ate her. That’s one way to deal with your mother-in-law. Going into Season 2, Margot and Sebastian will have to find a way to wiggle out of this vampiric legal nightmare.

Did Theo Die?

Enough of the Fairmonts; let’s go back to the Burns. After learning that Theo had been turned into a vampire, his parents were of two different minds. Jack (Jason Robert Moore) wanted to kill Vampire Theo, believing that the last thing his son would want was to live as the same sort of monster that killed his biological mother. Meanwhile, Talia (Aubin Wise) went into full momma bear mode. She repeatedly tried to reason with Jack to spare her son’s life. She eventually gave in, asking Jack if he could give them a few minutes alone so she could say goodbye. Yep, you know where this is going.

The minute they were alone, Talia freed Theo and smuggled him out of their house. But she didn’t bring him to the Fairmont family, or rather the main Fairmont family. Talia dropped Theo off with Oliver, telling Theo to remember his humanity before fleeing herself.

At first glance, Oliver seemed like a good idea. The Fairmonts are sketchy on the best days, and they’re connected to too many high-ranking vampires to make a monster hunter mom feel safe. But Oliver is the black sheep of this family. He seems like he sort of has a heart, and at the very least he hates Elinor. This is all to say that Talia’s decision makes a good amount of sense from her end. What she didn’t count on was Oliver’s literal army of nefarious creatures. Season 1 ended with Oliver introducing Theo to his personal monster mash and declaring, “You, me, and this woman, we’re going to run this bitch.” Savannah, beware.

What Happened Between Calliope and Juliette?

Forget the family drama, and let’s get to the heart of this series: true love. Cal was able to look Juliette’s questionable connections when she thought that Elinor murdered her brother. But when Cal learned that Juliette was the one who turned Theo, that was a bridge too far. As Juliette declared her love for Cal, Cal demanded that she stay the hell away from her. But she didn’t stop there.

“I vow to spend the rest of my life trying to figure out how to kill you and every Legacy like you,” Cal told her now ex-girlfriend.

For them, the season ended with Juliette and Cal quoting the same line from Romeo and Juliet: “These violent delights have violent ends.” Separately, they both lamented that if they never met each other, they could have learned to love moderately and they wouldn’t be in so much pain. No matter what they say, this love story is far from over.
