Matthew Morrison Fired From ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Over Inappropriate Messages to Contestant: Report

Matthew Morrison allegedly lost his judging gig on So You Think You Can Dance over an inappropriate relationship with a female contestant on the show. Morrison, who exited the series last week, had sent “flirty” messages to a SYTYCD competitor that made her “uncomfortable,” People reports.

A source told the outlet Morrison was fired from the FOX reality series over his actions. The source told People Morrison and the competitor “didn’t have sex, but he reached out to her through flirty direct messages on social media.”

They added, “She felt uncomfortable with his line of comments and went to producers, who then got FOX involved. He was fired after they did their own investigation.”

Morrison and the SYTYCD contestant “never met up off-set,” the source told People, explaining, “it was just messages that crossed the line.”

Reps for SYTYCD did not immediately respond when reached for comment by Decider.

When news of Morrison’s exit from the show first broke, he said in a statement that he left because he “did not follow competition production protocols,” per Deadline.

“Having the opportunity to be a judge on So You Think You Can Dance was an incredible honor for me. Therefore, it is my deepest regret to inform you that I will be leaving the show,” Morrison stated. “After filming the audition rounds for the show and completing the selection of the 12 finalists, I did not follow competition production protocols, preventing me from being able to judge the competition fairly. I cannot apologize enough to all involved and I will be watching alongside you all on what I know will be one of the best seasons yet.”

Morrison appears in four episodes of the new season, where he co-judges alongside JoJo Siwa and Stephen “tWitch” Boss. FOX is expected to announce a replacement for Morrison, who will fill in for him for the remainder of the season, according to Deadline.

SYTYCD airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on FOX.
