‘Star Trek: Picard’: Whoopi Goldberg Returns as Guinan in a Brand New Trailer

We’re going to need something stiffer than Earl Grey tea, hot, for this one. Paramount+ has released the new, official trailer for Star Trek: Picard Season 2, officially welcoming a familiar face back to the Star Trek fold: Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan.

The helpful and sometimes challenging bartender of the Enterprise from Next Generation hasn’t appeared since 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis, but her return isn’t a total surprise. In fact, Goldberg welcomed Sir Patrick Stewart’s invitation to return way back in January 22, 2020 when the latter appeared on The View.

In Season 2 of Picard, she’ll resume that role — this time, helping Picard navigate an alternate timeline created by his old nemesis, Q (John de Lancie). In the trailer, Guinan is seen working at a new bar, but still doling out the same mysterious wisdom to the former Starfleet captain. And though we don’t know exactly how large Goldberg’s role will be, it’s good to have her back.

The rest of the trailer teases how Q changes the timeline, and what the rest of the crew that assembled during Picard’s freshman season might need to do to get things back on track. We’ve also got a glimpse of Brent Spiner, who is also returning this season — not as android Data, but as his creator, Dr. Altan Inigo Soong.

Also in the cast are Alison Pill, Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Orla Brady, Isa Briones, and Santiago Cabrera, as well as Annie Wersching, who is taking over the iconic role of the Borg Queen.

Star Trek: Picard Season 2 premieres Thursday, March 3 on Paramount+. The 10-episode-long season will drop weekly thereafter, and Picard is already in production on Season 3. Watch the trailer above, and get that sweet, sweet thrill of nostalgia.
