Bull is coming to an end with its sixth and final season. The CBS legal drama’s series finale is expected to air in May. Lead actor Michael Weatherly announced his departure from the show on Twitter, citing his desire to “pursue new creative challenges.”

“Hello all! It’s been my privilege to play Dr. Jason Bull but after 6 seasons of incredible storylines, I’ve decided it’s time to pursue new creative challenges and bring his story to a close,” Weatherly wrote. “It has been an honor to work with this talented cast, crew, and writing team/producing team who helped reinvent the legal drama. Stay tuned for a big series finale…Thanks to all the fans from the bottom of my heart. You will always be part of our Bull family!”

Inspired by Dr. Phil McGraw’s early career, Bull centers on a trial consulting firm led by Dr. Bull (Weatherly), who uses his psychology expertise to help clients and lawyers win jurors over. The series also stars Yara Martinez, Geneva Carr, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Christopher Jackson, and MacKenzie Meehan.

Bull has also dealt with its fair share of controversy throughout its run. Last November, actress Eliza Dushku told a Congressional committee that she was fired from the series and forced into a non-disclosure agreement after facing “near-constant” sexual harassment from Weatherly in 2017. While Weatherly has publicly denied his role in Dushku being written off the show in Season 1, he admitted in a statement to engaging in behavior that was “both not funny and not appropriate.”

Showrunner Glenn Gordon Caron and former cast member Freddy Rodriguez departed Bull last season following a workplace investigation.
