It’s the end of an era for Issa Rae. After five seasons, the multi-hyphenate’s hit HBO dramedy Insecure came to an end on Sunday, December 26. So, how did Issa (Rae), Molly (Yvonne Orji), Kelli (Natasha Rothwell), Tiffany (Amanda Seales), and the rest of the Insecure gang’s stories end? Let’s break it all down:

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE INSECURE SERIES FINALE? INSECURE SERIES FINALE PLOT SUMMARY:

The Insecure series finale picks up right where the last episode left off, following a tense party confrontation between two of the men in Issa’s life: Her ex-fiancé, Lawrence (Jay Ellis), and her current boyfriend, Nathan (Kendrick Sampson).

Suddenly, Issa’s seemingly perfect life is upended, as Nathan leaves her and she worries that her bonds with her friends will change as they enter different life stages. From there, the rest of the episode flashes forward to catch up with Insecure‘s core main characters at a handful of birthday celebrations, and one wedding!

Issa reconciles with Nathan and wonders if she’ll ever not be messy at her surprise birthday party, and considers reconnecting with Lawrence on his birthday. Along the way a slew of other life changes occur — Tiffany commiserates with her friends about the horrors of living in Denver, Kelli decides to have a baby, and Molly’s mother tragically passes away.

Following Molly’s birthday party the next year, Lawrence greets Issa at her company’s office and congratulates her on how far she’s come. And yes, Issa and Lawrence shippers will be happy, because they/won’t they tension finally comes to an end. With a kiss, they officially reunite as a couple.

Months later, the gang is back together to celebrate Molly’s wedding to Taurean (Leonard Robinson), but the real highlight is Issa and Molly’s heart-to-heart at the end of the night. “As long as you’re around, I’ma be okay,” Molly tells her best friend, reaffirming their relationship as the core love story of the show.

Sometime alter, she oversees the Blocc in a fabulous red suit, before heading back to her new home with her fiancé (yes, again) Lawrence and his son. Molly calls from her honeymoon in Greece, and the two friends reminisce on where they’ve ended up before a laughing Issa joins Lawrence back inside. And there you have it! Insecure may be over, but Rae’s legacy in Hollywood is just getting started.
