We could all use one long, relaxed, deep breath after that twisted Succession Season 3 finale. What an evil turn of events! No spoilers, of course, but after a long season of backstabbers and birthday parties, the third installation in HBO‘s extraordinary drama has wrapped. While we won’t have to wait two years again — the days of long waits seem to be gone, thanks to the COVID vaccine — there’s still a bit of a lengthy holding time until we can get our hands on Season 4 of Succession. In the meantime, there are other options in store.
Turns out there are a lot of great shows about dysfunctional families, annoyingly wealthy people, and newsrooms that you can enjoy after Succession! From Arrested Development and The White Lotus to Veep and The Morning Show, there’s plenty in store. Whether you liked the comedy aspects, the intense character dynamics, or the reality of Succession, we’ve got a handful of shows to watch next.

'The White Lotus'

The White Lotus has the same eerily humorous-but-dark feeling as Succession, loaded with critiques of First Class living and more. Mike White’s new HBO show follows the deeply unsettling times at the White Lotus spa and resort in Hawaii, which houses wealthy folks as they attempt to learn about Hawaiian culture. Since the show has been renewed for a second season, we’re hoping to see the Roy family check in.
'Arrested Development'
The folks of Arrested Development are almost an exact mirror of everyone in Succession. We’ve got the “normal” son, his bratty sister, a nosy little brother and an indescribable older one. The patriarchal father is in control (though he’s falling apart, no thanks to his kids). And then there’s a weird brother-in-law and awkward youngster who are occasionally in-cahoots? Sounds like Succession, or could it be Arrested Development? The only thing missing from the former is a sassy mom, so you’ll want to fill the hole in your heart with Lucille Bluth.
'The Undoing'
The Undoing may be more dramatic than Succession, but it’s still got that same HBO level of prestige. Set in the glitzy area of upper Manhattan, the drama-mystery series follows a murder as it wreaks havoc on a rich group of New Yorkers. Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant star as a married couple with the perfect life — but everything starts to unfurl (or undo, if you will) as they discover the dark secrets hiding beneath their happy little life.
'Veep'
Veep is another hit for all HBO subscribers. Balancing drama with comedy, doofuses with whip-smart politicians, and high tension with low stakes, Veep has all of the same vibes you’re missing without Succession. Following Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the Vice President of the United States, the series is another testament to the lackluster and performative nature of politics in our great country, giving insight to publicity, press, and more.
'The Morning Show'
Tension, tension, tension! With the release of UBA+, we’re highly anticipating Waystar Royco dropping ATN+ sometime in the near future. The Morning Show is like Succession if Succession only dedicated its time to the drama over at ATN (which would make a really good spinoff, now that we’re talking about it). Everyone is as cutthroat as Succession, everyone hates each other, and every character has the same spiffy clothes in The Morning Show, so why not give it a watch?
'Yellowstone'
By now, you’ve probably heard about Paramount Network’s splashy Yellowstone. Akin to Succession and Arrested Development, Yellowstone follows a big family as they encounter drama, ownership details, politics, and ranching. Taylor Sheridan has more series coming out on Paramount+ that you might enjoy afterwards, like thriller series Mayor of Kingstown or prequel series 1883.
'Big Little Lies'
Iconic one-liners galore, Big Little Lies is like if Succession had an older, sassy sister. The series follows a handful of moms who are brought together thanks to the shared trauma surrounding the death of one of the husbands in their group. The series is led by an all-star cast of Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley. And, hey, Alexander Skarsgård is in both!
