Jimmy Kimmel Blasts Chris Christie’s Media Tour: “Lies Are As American As Apple Pies”

Jimmy Kimmel isn’t buying what former New Jersey governor Chris Christie has been selling. During Tuesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the late night host called out Donald Trump‘s former close confidante for attempting to repair his reputation while promoting his new book Republican Rescue.

As Kimmel put it, “[He’s] busy on a ‘yeah, I knew Trump told lies, but all politicians tell lies, and even though Trump told a thousand times more than all of them combined, the fact that I buddied up to him is OK, because lies are as American as apple pies’ image rehabilitation tour right now.”

During his recent media tour, Christie has faced scrutiny for closely supporting the Trump administration for years (although he’s since denounced the former President’s claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen). While he openly criticizes Trump in his book, Christie refused to rule out supporting him as a 2024 Republican presidential candidate in a recent interview with Trevor Noah.

But that’s not what Kimmel was interested in discussing. As part of his media tour, Christie sat down with CNN’s Dana Bash for an hour-long interview. Kimmel poked fun at a moment where Christie revealed that the gift he received most often during his eight years as governor was weight loss books.

“I’m sure all the governors get those. What a thoughtful gift that is,” Kimmel joked, before pointing out that, ironically, an ad for Golden Corral’s holiday ham aired on CNN during one of the special’s commercial breaks. “I don’t know about the corral, but that’s golden for sure,” he added.

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35/10:35c. Scroll up to watch a clip from last night’s episode.
