Harry Potter Reunion Special Set at HBO Max: Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint Set to Return

HBO Max is taking Harry Potter fans back to Hogwarts to ring in the New Year. The streamer has just announced a reunion special to celebrate the beloved fantasy series’ 20th anniversary, bringing back Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and a whole array of more Harry Potter stars you’ve been missing over the past decade. Get excited, because Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts is coming to HBO Max this January.

Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson will also be joined by filmmaker Chris Columbus as they return to Hogwarts for the first time, celebrating the franchise’s first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which premiered 20 years ago today. The retrospective will go in-depth about the making of the movie, as well as celebrate the legacy of the Harry potter film franchise.

“It has been an incredible journey since the debut of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone film, and witnessing how it has evolved into this remarkable interconnected universe has been magical to say the least,” said Tom Ascheim, President, Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics. “This retrospective is a tribute to everyone whose lives were touched by this cultural phenomenon—from the talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into this extraordinary film franchise to the passionate fans who continue to keep the Wizarding World spirit alive 20 years later.”

Returning cast members will include Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, Ian Hart, and more.

“There’s magic in the air here with this incredible cast, as they all return home to the original sets of Hogwarts, where they began 20 years ago. The excitement is palpable as they prepare to take their fans on a very special and personal journey, through the making of these incredible films,” said executive producer Casey Patterson.

J.K. Rowling, who went under fire last summer for her comments and essays about the trans community, is a glaring omission the special.

At the moment, all nine Harry Potter films are streaming on HBO Max. The franchise is also set to debut Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses, a bracket-style quiz competition, on TBS and Cartoon Network on Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. ET. The four-part competition event will land on HBO Max on Jan. 1.
