‘The View’ Hosts Shred Congress Over Weak Build Back Better Act: “They Don’t Give a Rats-Patootie!”

On today’s episode of The View, the ABC talk show’s hosts shredded Congress over cutting “things everybody wanted” from the blueprint of President Joe Biden‘s proposed Build Back Better package, including paid family and medical leave, Medicare expansion, a “billionaire tax,” and free community college.

Joy Behar called out the plan’s lack of paid family leave, arguing that Democrats are supposed to be the party of families. “The Republican Party doesn’t give a rat’s patootie about the families or they would be behind it. But they’re not,” she said. “So the Democrats are now falling short because of [Joe] Manchin and [Kyrsten] Sinema.”

Meanwhile, Sunny Hostin said she was happy that the plan still included elder and healthcare funding, since many American families can’t afford elder care. “It should be a right. [Senior citizens have] paid taxes all their life,” moderator Whoopi Goldberg interjected. “And now [the government says], ‘Well, I don’t know how much money there’s gonna be for social security.’ Could you stop taking our money… and leave a little for us?”

“We should be taking care of our most vulnerable, and that’s our children and our elders,” Hostin added. “And we’re not doing that.”

Although guest host Ana Navarro lamented the loss of free community college, she credited Biden for persistently negotiating with Manchin and Sinema, lobbying in Congress, and being present at Democratic caucus meetings. “I celebrate that [the bill isn’t] dead,” she pointed out.

Sara Haines called out Congress’ inability to make prescription drug pricing more accessible, as well as pushback against the “billionaire tax.”

“There are 700 billionaires in this country. You take a fraction of a percentage, and they could solve problems in this country,” she said. “And we’re protecting them, ‘We don’t want to hamper their success.’ And they’re beyond successful.

Navarro made a dig at Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his commercial space company Blue Origin, adding, “It would be nice if instead of spending billions going to space, maybe those billionaires could spend it on Earth to give equal opportunities to a country that gave them the opportunity to become billionaires.”
