Does ‘Dune’ Have a Post-Credit Scene? No, And Here’s Why

In the age of the Marvel and DC cinematic universe, it’s no wonder many moviegoers end up wanting to know if a new blockbuster will inevitably have a post-credit scene. Denis Villeneuve‘s new Dune adaptation ends on a cliffhanger, so does it use a nifty post-credit scene to set up its potential sequel? Nope, and don’t expect Villeneuve to start utilizing this technique down the line.

“I don’t like post-credits scenes,” the director told NME in a new interview. “There is a very specific final emotion that I was looking for with the final frame [of Dune] and I don’t want to mess with that. So no, I don’t use post-credit scenes. I’ve never done that and I would never.”

He also clarified that Dune won’t have a director’s cut, despite actor Jason Momoa recently saying he wanted to see the six-hour assembly cut of the film. “I love Jason, but such a thing doesn’t exist!” Villeneuve continued. “The Director’s Cut is what people are watching in theaters right now. There will be no other cut… Yes I could have made a much longer, more contemplative movie, but that was not the plan.”

So since Dune doesn’t have an after credits scene, when will we get to see the further adventures of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet)? Warner Bros. hasn’t officially announced Dune Part 2, but it seems pretty likely. When Deadline asked WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Chair and CEO Ann Sarnoff about the possibility, she replied, “Will we have a sequel to Dune? If you watch the movie you see how it ends. I think you pretty much know the answer to that.”

You know what’s better than a post credits scene? A whole post credits movie. Fingers crossed Dune Part 2 gets greenlit, so we can see what happens next.

Dune is out now in theaters and on HBO Max.
