Matthew Mindler, Child Actor from ‘Our Idiot Brother,’ Dead at 19

Matthew Mindler, the former child star who was featured in Our Idiot Brother alongside Paul Rudd, has been found dead after he was originally reported missing since Thursday (Aug. 26). He was 19.

Mindler was enrolled in Millersville University in Pennsylvania, which had reported him missing last week after he didn’t return to his room on Tuesday evening. Daniel A. Wubah, the University president, announced Saturday that Mindler had died.

“It is with a grieving heart that I let you know of the death of 19-year-old Matthew Mindler from Hellertown, Pennsylvania, a first-year student at Millersville University,” Wubah wrote in a letter posted to the Millersville University Twitter page.

His body was discovered in a wooded area near campus, university spokesperson Janet Kacskos reported.

“This is a time of grief for the family, our campus and the community,” Wubah continued. “I ask that the campus community come together to support each other, and our students, during this difficult time.”

No cause of death has been reported at this time, but the university stated that Mindler’s body “was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center by the coroner for further investigation.”

Mindler is originally from Hellertown, Pennsylvania, and was in his first year at the university. University police filed a missing adult report on Thursday after he was missing from his classes. More than 40 search and rescue teams were dispatched to find him, Kacskos reported.

Before enrolling at Millersville University, Mindler appeared in a handful of multiple TV shows and movies as a child actor, including As the World TurnsLate Show With David Letterman, and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.

In 2011, Mindler portrayed the role of River in Our Idiot Brother, with a cast of big stars like Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, and more. His most recent role was in the 2016 TV show Chad: An American Boy, starring as Peter.
