‘The Problem With Jon Stewart’ Predicted Jeff Bezos’s Space Cowboy Look Weeks Ago

Jeff Bezos spent 11 minutes in sub-orbit yesterday, and while his self-indulgent Blue Origin space flight proved historic in several legitimate ways (the four-man trip included both the youngest person and oldest person to fly into space), it was Bezos’ post-flight lewk that had people talking. Some people called him a space cowboy, thanks to the wide-brimmed 10-gallon hat that he had in his outer space carry-on, which he donned as he exited the capsule after it touched down on solid ground.

While the billionaire space-race has been referenced often in pop culture, as in this 2014 Simpsons episode about Richard Branson going to space, the new Apple TV+ series The Problem With Jon Stewart released a trailer parodying Bezos’s mission to be the first billionaire in space, in a sketch titled “Cum Dog Billionaires.” And what’s more, though it was filmed well before any of us knew that Bezos would go full John Wayne on us, it features Bezos donning a cowboy hat that’s eerily similar to Bezos’s real one.

The sketch features Jason Alexander portraying Bezos, as he threatens to ride a rocket that “[looks] just like my dick” into space, in an attempt to beat out Elon Musk (played by Adam Pally) and Richard Branson (played by a mop). The show’s head writer Chelsea Devantez pointed out on Twitter that in the clip, the scene where Alexander is seen admiring his cowboy look in the mirror was filmed weeks ago, before the Blue Origin launch. And that’s how you can identify good comedy: it doesn’t just satirize the present, it can also predict the future.

The Problem With Jon Stewart premieres on Apple TV+ in September.
