‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Is Now Streaming For Free on Disney+

Raya and the Last Dragon is finally soaring onto Disney+ — for free. The new animated film recently debuted under the platform’s Premier Access tier, meaning that subscribers had to pay an extra fee on top of their subscription rate in order to view the film. But that period has passed, and now, Disney+ subscribers can stream the film at no added cost.

Disney+ announced Premier Access with the release of their live-action adaptation of Mulan, which dropped last September. These new films, which have also released in theaters (when and if they were open at the time), have cost an extra $29.99 to watch on top of the $7.99 Disney+ monthly subscription fee. That may sound like a lot — but each film’s Premier Access is a one-time purchase, meaning that viewers can stream the film over and over again.

Raya and the Last Dragon takes place in the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons once were able to live together in harmony. When monsters threatened the land, however, the dragons stepped in to protect humanity from extinction. Now, enter Raya (Kelly Marie Tran): a warrior who must set out to find the last dragon and pay the favor forward by saving their kind.

“The top layer of Raya and the Last Dragon is stunning, a visual splendor rich with postcard cinematography and thoughtfully designed set pieces,” writes Decider’s John Serba in his review of the film. “The story, however, is very much the typical fantasy-voyage fodder with fantastical creatures, gallant warriors, colorful-oddball supporting characters and the special powerful gem, always with the special powerful gems.”

Along with Raya and the Last DragonMulan was another new release that shifted from Disney+ Premier Access to regular Disney+. Typically, the films take three months to release for free on the streamer. Cruella is currently streaming in the Premier Access section of the platform. The Emma Stone-led origin flick will be released for free on the streamer later this summer, on August 27. Look out for new releases Black Widow and Jungle Cruise, which are set for a simultaneous release in theaters and to Disney+ Premier Access later this summer.

Disney+ has yet to announce if any of their other upcoming films, like Free Guy or Shang-Chi and the Seven Rings will head to Disney+ Premier Access, or receive an exclusive in-theater debut. For now, the wait is over on Raya and the Last Dragon — get streaming!
