Jupiter's Legacy
Jupiter’s Legacy is the latest original superhero series in Netflix’s library—and it’s quite possibly the biggest one of the bunch. The special effects on the show are movie-worthy, with some of the action scenes standing side-by-side with the best Marvel has to offer. The show also has a lot going on plot-wise, with plenty of mysteries to solve and around 100 years of continuity to explore. These eight episodes leave you with a whole lot of questions, and no doubt you want—nay, need—to know more. So—will you get the answers you seek? Will you at least get another season of Jupiter’s Legacy on Netflix? Here’s everything we know about the future of this super series.
Does Jupiter’s Legacy Volume 1 end on a cliffhanger?
Oh, you bet it does. It ends on a number of cliffhangers and wicked reveals that merit their very own explainer article. It’s truly too much to break down again right here right now but, if pressed to sum it up in a spoiler-filled sentence: Brainwave is bad to the bone and he’s gunning for leadership of the Union by any means necessary, and that includes driving Utopian and his son Paragon apart.
Will there be a Jupiter’s Legacy Season 2?
That’s a question we don’t have an answer to just yet. Netflix only ordered the 8-episode Volume 1 to start. The fact that it’s called “Volume 1” seems to imply that there should be a Volume 2, right? If so, Netflix hasn’t announced it or made it official just yet.
We do know that Netflix is betting big on Jupiter’s Legacy. It’s the first Netflix original to drop as part of their acquisition of comic author Mark Millar’s publishing line Millarworld. Millar’s known for original comics like Kick-Ass and Wanted, both of which were turned into feature films. He also gave the Avengers franchise a gritty, 21st century reboot with the blockbuster series The Ultimates for Marvel and wrote Marvel’s Civil War storyline. He’s a big deal in the comics world and Netflix wanted to build out their own original superhero universe based on his properties.
So… it feels like Netflix at least intended for Jupiter’s Legacy to get a second season. Now it’s just up to the audience to find it, talk about it, and binge it ASAP.
When will Jupiter’s Legacy Volume 2 come out on Netflix?
If Netflix orders a second batch of episodes, it’ll take at least six months to film them; production on Volume 1 lasted from July 2019 to January 2020. Then either the special effects took over a year to complete, or Netflix delayed the release due to the pandemic so they wouldn’t use up all of their content before filming could return to a semblance of normal. Either way, if Netflix order’s more of Jupiter’s Legacy, it definitely won’t arrive before 2022, most likely summer 2022 at the earliest.

UPDATE (6/3/21): Series creator Mark Millar announced that the cast was released from their contracts, freeing them up to pursue other shows while he explores another series with Netflix. That means all plans for Season 2, if there were any, are on indefinite hold.
