Meghan McCain Tries to Shut Down ‘Bridgerton’ Segment After Whoopi Offers to Send Sunny a Vibrator

Not everyone on The View is mourning Regé-Jean Page’s exit from Bridgerton. In a segment from this morning’s episode that can only be described as cringe-worthy, the co-hosts of the daytime talk show launched into a conversation about the sad news that broke last Friday, when Netflix revealed Page would not reprise his role as the Duke of Hastings for Season 2 of the period romance.

When Sunny Hostin confessed to Whoopi Goldberg she wasn’t sure “which stage of grief I’m in right now,” her co-host’s reply made Meghan McCain blush and Sara Haines burst out laughing: “I can send you a vibrator for that.” McCain tried to shut down the conversation right after, shifting in her seat and telling her co-hosts, “all right, okay.”

But the segment only continued, as Hostin and Haines traded comments about how much they would miss Page’s character. “I now burn for the Duke,” Hostin confessed, and Haines agreed. “I burn so much that I had been waiting for Season 2 of Bridgerton and I had to explain to [my husband] Max that it wasn’t happening,” she said. “Max is now upset because that was really beneficial for all of us.”

Joy Behar, who hadn’t chimed in until now, asked Haines what she meant by her “beneficial” comment. “We’re in a pandemic, we have toddlers, there’s division … Bridgerton can really turn the temperature up,” Haines explained, which Behar concluded was a reference to what she described as the show’s “soft porn.”

Notably silent in all the Bridgerton talk was McCain, who has never watched the show — and after today’s segment, probably never will. “I was going to tell everyone to please watch Yellowstone,” she said. “None of you guys are watching and it’s a fantastic, Western, sexy cowboy show.

“I really appreciate the fact that your sex life apparently has a lot to do with Bridgerton, and I’m confused. That was not the topic that was pitched this morning, that was not what I agreed to talk about on air,” McCain continued. “Meghan does not want any more topics like this, please.”

In one last protest, McCain told her co-hosts, “My mother watches this show!” But Haines was quick to reply, “She knows, you have a baby!”

Before the segment came to a close, Goldberg got one last quip in. “And for any of you who are looking for a great place to buy vibrators, we can put some information on our website,” she told viewers.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
