Who is, the hot interim Jeopardy host? No, really: who is he?
This week, Jeopardy executive producer Mike Richards took over for GOAT Ken Jennings as guest host on the beloved quiz show. Richards has only hosted for two nights, but fans are already calling for him to remain behind the podium for good… because they want to keep looking at him. Hey, it’s a pandemic — you’ve got to take what you can get!
Richards’ Jeopardy hosting stint kicked off on Monday evening, and, like Jennings, he opened his first episode with a nod to longtime host Alex Trebek, who died of pancreatic cancer in November 2020. “I’m hosting today and for the next two weeks to keep the greatest quiz show in the world going,” he said. “We have some amazing guest hosts coming that I can’t wait for you to see. But with the COVID outbreak here in L.A., folks were understandably a little reticent to shoot. So as the producer, my job is to quite literally live the mantra, the show must go on. So let’s do what Alex did 8,244 times. Let’s play Jeopardy! and prove that nothing can stop this show.”
With his good looks and quick wit, it didn’t take long for Richards to endear himself to longtime Jeopardy fans. Almost immediately, viewers took to social media to praise Richards’, uh, natural gifts, and many urged the show to keep him on full-time. “Jeopardy can stop looking for Alex Trebek’s replacement because their executive producer/temporary host – Mike Richards – is a FOX!” wrote one fan. “Please keep Mike Richards on Jeopardy forever,” said another. “He’s confident, charming, and easy on the eyes.”
Richards will be hosting Jeopardy through March 5, so fans will have plenty of time to take in his fitted suits and well-coiffed hair. Afterwards, Katie Couric will step behind the podium, followed by Dr. Mehmet Oz and Green Bay Packers quarterback (and fellow hot person) Aaron Rodgers.
