‘Sex and the City’ Revival ‘And Just Like That’ Set at HBO Max

And just like that… Sex and the City is returning to the small screen. HBO Max has given a series order to a Sex and the City revival starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon. Kim Cattrall, who played the fourth member of the group, Samantha, in the original series, will not appear in the SATC reboot on HBO Max.

Described as “a new chapter” in the Sex and the City franchise, HBO Max’s And Just Like That… will follow Carrie (Parker), Miranda (Nixon), and Charlotte (Davis) as they navigate the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. The ten-episode, half-hour series is currently slated to begin production in New York in late spring.

“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them,” said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max, in a statement.

Like the HBO series, And Just Like That… is based on the book Sex and the City by Candace Bushnell. The forthcoming revival is executive produced by Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Michael Patrick King, who oversaw the original series and directed, wrote, and produced the 2008 and 2010 films.

News of the SATC revival was met with excitement from fans, but many are nervous about how the iconic series will continue without Cattrall’s Samantha, by far the most fun member of the core four. Neither HBO Max nor the stars have addressed how the reboot plans to explain Samantha’s absence, or even if it will be addressed at all. However, after Parker shared the first teaser on Instagram, fans spammed the comments with questions about Cattrall, and the star responded to a few, saying, “We have some new stories to tell. We are excited,” and “Wait and see…”
