Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder And The Safdie Brothers Teaming Up For Showtime’s ‘The Curse’

Emma Stone is returning to TV for her latest project, a comedy series from Nathan Fielder and the Safdie brothers. Stone and Fielder are set to star in The Curse, an upcoming Showtime project described by the network as a genre-bending scripted comedy that explores how an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple as they try to conceive a child while co-starring on their problematic new HGTV show.

Stone will also executive produce The Curse, with Fielder directing and executive producing alongside Josh and Benny Safdie, who will be working under their Elara Pictures Banner. Fielder and Benny Safdie, who will also star in The Curse, created the series together. A24, the production company behind Euphoria and the Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems, will produce The Curse, continuing a partnership between Showtime and A24 that also includes Moonbase 8 and an upcoming series from comedian Ziwe.

“The fierce intelligence and wit of the incomparable Emma Stone make her the perfect partner with the ingenious minds of the Safdie brothers and the subversive comedy of Nathan Fielder,” Amy Israel, Executive Vice President, Scripted Programming, Showtime Networks Inc, said in a statement today. “Together, they promise to deliver a groundbreaking satire that is both unexpected and deeply human. Showtime continues to shine as a beacon for visionary filmmakers who are looking to create their ambitious, singular shows.”

Stone, who’s earned an Academy Award and multiple nominations for her work on screen over the years, last appeared on TV in Maniac, a sci-fi comedy on Netflix also starring Jonah Hill. In the past, she’s also worked on series like Drive, Malcom in the Middle, and Medium. Her next project is the Disney movie Cruella, in which she plays the titular villain. Fielder, who had his own Comedy Central series, Nathan For You, for four years, recently produced HBO’s hit comedy How to With John Wilson, which was renewed for Season 2 earlier this week. Fielder has also appeared in The Disaster Artist and Transparent, and voiced characters on Bob’s Burgers, Rick and Morty and more.
