‘The Mandalorian’ Sets Season 2 Premiere Date

The Mandalorian Season 2 officially has a premiere date. Disney has announced that the critically-acclaimed Star Wars spinoff series will premiere on Friday, October 30 on Disney+. Call it “Baby Yoda Day.”

Disney+ has yet to announce an official release schedule, but if Season 1 is any indication, the first episode of The Mandalorian Season 2 will debut on October 30, with new episodes dropping on subsequent Fridays.

The new installment of Disney’s live-action The Mandalorian will continue the story of Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), a loner who operates on the far edges of the galaxy. Set in the period after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, The Mandalorian expands the Star Wars franchise by introducing new characters, enemies, and storylines that tie into the original films.

The Mandalorian Season 1 debuted on Disney+ in November 2019 to rave reviews from fans and critics alike. The series immediately took over the cultural conversation — who could forget weeks of Baby Yoda memes? — and before long, Disney began to up the ante with the addition of high profile stars and a making-of-docuseries, Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian.

Between the 2020 Emmy Awards and the Season 2 premiere in October, The Mandalorian cast and crew will have quite a busy fall. In September, the sci-fi epic will compete for 13 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series (for Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon), Outstanding Special Visual Effects, and Outstanding Drama Series. The Emmys are traditionally hesitant to hand out major nominations to new series, so the fact that Disney+ was able to get The Mandalorian into the Drama Series race is truly an impressive feat.

In addition to Pascal, The Mandalorian stars Carl Weathers, Werner Herzog, Nick Nolte, Omid Abtahi, Taika Waititi, Gina Carano, Bill Burr, Jake Cannavale, and Amy Sedaris. New Season 2 cast members include Timothy Olyphant, Katee Sackhoff, and Temuera Morrison, among others.
