Chadwick Boseman, who died Friday after a battle with colon cancer at the age of 43, was someone who portrayed prominent heroes such as Jackie Robinson and Thurgood Marshall, as well as fictional ones, such the Black Panther, on the big screen.
Upon news of his untimely passing, his Marvel colleagues and friends, along with many other celebrities, such as Viola Davis, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Oprah and Martin Luther King III, are paying tribute on social media to an actor that they viewed as a hero in his own right for portraying famous Black Americans onscreen. Boseman fought a private health battle for four years while contributing to the kind of powerful and important content that some actors can only dream to be a part of someday.
Within minutes of his death, actress Angela Bassett, who had a personal relationship with the late actor, took to Instragram to pen a beautiful dedication to his life.
“I pay tribute to a beautiful spirit, a consummate artist, a soulful brother,” she said. “thou aren’t not dead but flown afar…”
