When it comes to the 2020 Emmy Awards, the show must go on. Today, Saturday Night Live alum Leslie Jones will team up with Laverne Cox, Josh Gad, and Tatiana Maslany to announce the nominees for the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards. The 2020 Emmy nominations will stream live on the official Emmys site and on the Television Academy’s Facebook page this morning, so die-hard TV fans everywhere should be sure to tune in.
After the all-out dominance of Fleabag and Game of Thrones at last year’s Emmy Awards, 2020 brings a wide-open race in various categories. On the drama side, The Crown returns as a perpetual favorite, but this time, it will be Olivia Colman leading the charge. For The Crown to reign supreme, the Netflix drama will have to beat out expected nominees Succession, Ozark, and Better Call Saul, the latter of which has been nominated for each of its previous seasons. After a stellar Season 5, could this be the year that Saul wins the Outstanding Drama Series award?
The comedy race is even more interesting this year. Schitt’s Creek is expected to lead the way with nominations in multiple categories, including Outstanding Comedy Series, but there are still quite a few dark horse contenders that deserve your attention. After a surprise win at the 2020 Golden Globes, Netflix’s The Kominsky Method is expected to make a play for the comedy crown, while Ramy, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Good Place are also likely nominees. Plus, don’t forget Amy Sherman-Palladino’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which has dominated the supporting categories in recent years.
The 72nd Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air Sunday, September 20 on ABC. The Television Academy has yet to announce if the show will air virtually or live, but expect a decision in the coming weeks.
Here is the full list of 2020 Emmy nominees. Decider will update this list as nominations are announced.
