Is ‘13 Reasons Why’ Over or is Season 5 in the Works at Netflix?

13 Reasons Why became a juggernaut hit for Netflix when it premiered all the way back in 2017. Originally intended as a limited series, 13 Reasons Why has gone on to run for four seasons, each dealing with the ramifications of abuse, trauma, bullying, and violence. After the premiere of 13 Reasons Why Season 4, only one question remains: is 13 Reasons Why Season 5 in the works at Netflix?

13 Reasons Why was initially imagined as a single series adaptation of Jay Asher’s popular YA novel about a teen girl’s death by suicide. Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) was a kind, misunderstood girl who felt isolated, bullied, and abused by her classmates. In fact, we learn she was even sexually assaulted by one. After Hannah dies, she leaves behind an audio diary on a series of cassette tapes. Each episode of 13 Reasons Why‘s first season focused on one side of a tape, in which Hannah details one of the “reasons” why she was led to her fate. By the end of the season, Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) seems to understand why Hannah was a victim of circumstance, and the show was supposed to end there.

However when 13 Reasons Why became a monster hit, Netflix decided to renew it for another season. Later seasons dealt with the trial for justice for Hannah, the pervasive bullying at the high school, and more tragedy in the forms of death, sexual assault, drug abuse, and an attempted school shooting.

13 Reasons Why Season 4 premiered on Netflix over a year ago and it’s supposed to be the final season of 13 Reasons Why, but is 13 Reasons Why really finished? Will there be a 13 Reasons Why Season 5 on Netflix? Here’s everything we know about 13 Reasons Why Season 5.

WILL THERE BE A 13 REASONS WHY SEASON 5 ON NETFLIX?

Probably not! We’re sorry to have to break this, but when Netflix announced that they were making 13 Reasons Why Season 4, they confirmed it was the final season.

That means that according to Netflix, this is the final time we’ll visit the students of Liberty High. To hammer this home, Netflix even released an emotional video paying tribute to the last season of 13 Reasons Why.

COULD THERE BE A 13 REASONS WHY SPINOFF ON NETFLIX?

I mean, theoretically? Anything is possible? If you can dream it, you can be it???

But in all seriousness, it’s highly unlikely that Netflix is currently eyeing a 13 Reasons Why spinoff at the present moment. We say that because 13 Reasons Why star Dylan Minnette all but laughed off the spinoff rumors in an interview with ET. “I don’t even know what that would be,” he said, before declining to confirm that he would even play the part of Clay Jensen again.

The good news is that Netflix is not leaving the cast of 13 Reasons Why behind. Original 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford starred in splashy fantasy series called Cursed on Netflix last summer. Cursed is a retelling of the Arthurian myth from the perspective of Langford’s character, Nimue, the Lady of the Lake.

Some good news for fans of the 13 Reasons Why cast: Alisha Boe and Brandon Flynn have recently signed on to star in a movie together. Though most of the plot details are currently under wraps, we know that Who Am I? will reunite the 13 Reasons Why alums.
