Is Hulu Leaving Roku?

It’s been a rocky week for Roku. First, WarnerMedia’s new streaming service HBO Max is not available on Roku, and now, many users are concerned that Hulu will be leaving the streaming device. Is nothing sacred?

This week, many Roku users received an email notifying them that Hulu will be dropped from certain devices in June. Is this legit? Will Hulu no longer be on Roku? You’ve got questions, and we’ve got answers. Here’s everything you need to know about Hulu leaving Roku!

WHAT IS THE HULU NO LONGER ON ROKU MESSAGE?

According to a community posting, certain Roku users received emails this week alerting them to a major programming shift. The email notifies users that “the Hulu app will no longer be available on your Roku device starting on June 24, 2020,” a mere four weeks away.

However, in somewhat confusing fashion, the email also says that customers can continue to “have the full Hulu Experience” by using a different supported device or operating system. What gives?

IS HULU NO LONGER SUPPORTED ON ROKU?

Yes and no. The Hulu Help Center notes that the Hulu removal will be limited to older Roku devices released before October 2012. The specific Roku devices that will no longer support Hulu include:

  • Roku Streaming Player (models 2400 to 3100)
  • Roku Streaming Stick (model 3420 or earlier)

SO, IS HULU LEAVING ROKU?

For the vast majority of people, Hulu will not be leaving Roku. Newer models will stream the latest Hulu app, and certain older models will still support the classic Hulu app.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER HULU SUPPORTED DEVICES? HOW TO WATCH HULU ON ROKU

Of course! The Hulu app will only be unavailable on a handful of older Roku devices, which means that any  streaming player, streaming stick, or Roku TV purchased since 2013 (models 3500 and later) will stream Hulu. For the full list of Hulu supported Roku devices, head to Hulu’s Help Center.
