Woman Crush Wednesday: Maude Apatow is Taking Over ‘Hollywood’

It is the last week of April, which also means that that is the final Woman Crush Wednesday of the month. But no need to fret, friends! Because as April closes out and we spring into the newness and growth of May, it only makes sense that we celebrate someone who is only just at the beginning of what is sure to be a long and incredible career. So, without further ado, give it up for this week’s WCW, the marvelous Maude Apatow!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Maude Apatow

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Apatow plays Henrietta in Ryan Murphy’s brand new Netflix drama Hollywood, which hits the platform this Friday, May 1. Hollywood is a seven-episode limited series set in late-1940s Hollywood, where various filmmakers attempt to strike it big in a movie industry that is biased against certain genders, races, and sexualities. The series is already getting plenty of positive press from sources like IndieWire, Vogue, and the Associated Press, so this show will definitely be one to watch, and we can’t wait to see what Apatow brings to the table in it.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Even though she’s only 22 years-old, Apatow has already put up plenty of terrific performances in was has turned out to be an impressive list of credits (with many more to come). Her acting debut was in 2005 comedy film The 40-Year-Old Virgin, appearing in the deleted scenes, as her parts did not ultimately make it into the final cut of her father Judd Apatow’s breakthrough movie. However, this first appearance got the ball rolling for Apatow, who just two years later went on to play Sadie in romantic comedy film Knocked Up, quickly going on to appear in other hit comedy films like Funny People in 2009, This is 40 in 2012, and Other People in 2016, as well in more dramatic or intense films like 2017 indie drama The House of Tomorrow and 2018 black comedy thriller Assassination Nation. Apatow has also has some incredible TV credits, beginning in 2015 with a three episode recurring role as Cleo on HBO comedy-drama Girls, and since last year has starred as Lexi Howard in the new hit HBO drama Euphoria. Apatow has certainly already made her mark, and I, for one, am really looking forward to seeing what she will accomplish in the future.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Speaking of Apatow’s future roles, she is starring alongside Pete Davidson in upcoming comedy film, The King of Staten Island, which is set to come out in June. In the movie, Apatow plays Davidson’s younger sister who heads off to college, forcing Davidson’s character to be home alone in Staten Island with his mother (Marisa Tomei) and her new boyfriend (Bill Burr), setting off a chain of events that will make Davidson’s Scott grapple with grief and progress into adulthood and maturity. Beyond that, we’re not sure what’s next on the horizon for Apatow, but in the meantime be sure to follow her on Twitter and Instagram to stay up to date with everything she’s got going on.
