‘Saturday Night Live’ Will Return This Weekend With a New Episode

Live (ish) from New York, it’s Saturday night! According to NBC News, Saturday Night Live will return to television this Saturday, April 11 in its usual 11:30/10:30c time slot. The show will include a new edition of “Weekend Update,” as well as a series of other sketches produced entirely by cast and crew members at home.

NBC News senior media reporter Dylan Byers reports that this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live will be produced one hundred percent remotely, away from 30 Rock. The episode will air at the show’s usual time, but NBC has yet to announce whether “Weekend Update” and the sketches will air live, or if they will be pre-recorded earlier in the day. According to Byers, sources close to the show claim that “Tom Hanks may be involved. When reached for a statement, NBC declined to comment on Hanks’ involvement.

Saturday Night Live has been on hiatus since mid-March, when NBC halted production on its late night shows due to concerns about the novel coronavirus. Over the past few weeks, fellow NBC mainstays The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers have begun airing new episodes produced and taped entirely at home, and now, it seems that SNL is finally following suit.

With its April 10 return, SNL will only have missed one previously-announced episode. On March 28, John Krasinski was set to host to promote his film A Quiet Place Part II, which was delayed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandmeic, alongside musical guest Dua Lipa. NBC has yet to reschedule Krasinski and Dua Lipa’s episode, but after the success of the singer’s new album, fans will likely be overjoyed to welcome her back.

Saturday Night Live returns this Saturday, April 11 at 11:30 p.m. ET.
