‘The Nanny’ Cast Is Reuniting for a Virtual Table Read

A 90s sitcom favorite is coming back, but in a very quarantine-friendly fashion. The Nanny cast is reuniting for a virtual table read of the series’ pilot episode over Zoom, Variety reported. The cast’s video will be up and ready to enjoy on the Sony Pictures Youtube channel starting April 6.

Fran Drescher, who played Fran Fine on the show for six seasons, teased the table read last week (March 24) when she replied to a fan who was feeling nostalgic about The Nanny during her quarantine. “Awe hang in! We got a surprise for you! Announcement this week! Stay tuned! Weeeee!!!” she tweeted in reply.

All of the original cast will be Zoom-ing in for the table read with the exception of James Marsden, who played Eddie on the series. So, you’ll be seeing familiar faces along with Drescher, like Daniel Davis, Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury, Madeline Zima and Charles Shaughnessy.

“Laughter is the best medicine! So, in these challenging times, Petah [The Nanny‘s co-creator, Peter Marc Jacobson] and I thought, wouldn’t it be great if we pulled together the original cast of The Nanny for a virtual read of the pilot?” Drescher said in a statement, according to Variety. “It’s a once in a lifetime Pandemic Performance for our fans around the world who are currently stressing in isolation and could use a real upper! It sure has given each of us a lift and we hope it does for you as well.”

The Nanny first debuted in 1993 on CBS. It follows the adventures of Fran (Drescher) after she’s fired from her job at a bridal shop and gets a new gig taking care of the three children of Broadway producer Maxwell Sheffield (Shaughnessy). It’s not currently available to watch on platforms like Netflix or Hulu, but you can stream the first two seasons on the Roku Channel, Cozi TV and Logo TV.
