If it feels like it’s been forever since The CW’s Riverdale was last on the air… Well, it hasn’t been forever, it’s only been a little over a month. But in dog years, that’s a much longer time, which is perhaps why there’s no Riverdale on tonight, and instead, The CW is broadcasting a special titled The CW Dog Honors. So when will Riverdale finally air in 2020?

Great question, but first let’s discuss these dog awards. Unlike the Westminster Dog Show, or the Puppy Bowl, or… I’m sure there are other dog awards… The CW Dog Honors takes a decidedly more cheeky look at our canine friends. Hosted by Mario Lopez, his daughter Gia, and their family dog, Julio, the Dog Honors, er, honors, dogs in “categories ranging from Best Supporting Actor to a Dog, Celebrity Dog Selfie, Top Movie Dog, Top TV Dog, and many more,” according to the press info.

The special will air January 15, 2020 at 8/7c, in Riverdale‘s regular time slot. And frankly, it’s a real shame that they didn’t retrofit this into an episode of the show. There are already two pups on Riverdale: Archie Andrews’ (KJ Apa) faithful doggo, Vegas; and Jughead’s gang mascot, Hot Dog. Neither gets nearly enough screen-time on the series, and frankly, it would be an incredibly short lift to have a dog award show held in Riverdale. I dunknow, Hiram (Mark Consuelos) does it to distract from some crimes or something. The dogs are stuffed with drugs. You get the idea.

In any case, all that is a long way of saying Riverdale isn’t on tonight, but it is coming back very soon. A week from now, in fact. Riverdale Season 4, Episode 10, “Chapter Sixty-Seven: Varsity Blues” will air on Wednesday, January 22 at 8/7c. In the episode, the teens head back to school and finally play some football, like normal teens. That is, until a mysterious dog stuffed with drugs wanders onto the field! That last part is not true, but I’m really trying to make it happen.

With the last new episode of Riverdale, “Chapter Sixty-Six: Tangerine,” airing on December 11, 2019, which was a whole decade ago, you may have forgotten a few things. Here’s the thirty second version: Archie met his uncle, Betty (Lili Reinhart) was turned into a Manchurian Candidate style assassin, Veronica (Camila Mendes) maybe got into Columbia, and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) joined a secret society and is possibly going to die during Spring Break. Also, Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) set her brother on fire and locked her mother in a sex bunker.

There, that requires no further explanation. See you next Wednesday!
