When Will ‘The Aeronauts’ Be on Amazon Prime Video?

The onslaught of 2019 films you need to watch is neverending, but at least there are a few films you can watch from the comfort of your own home. That includes The Aeronauts, Amazon’s old-school adventure flick starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones as a 19th-century meteorologist and a 19th-century hot air balloon pilot, respectively. Himesh Patel, Tom Courtenay, and Phoebe Fox also star.

From director Tom Harper (Wild Rose) and written by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) this film is very loosely based on the true story of James Glaisher (Redmayne), a scientist and aeronaut who made numerous trips via hot air balloon to measure the temperature and humidity of the air at the highest level possible. In 1862, Glaisher broke the world record for altitude reached. (It should be noted that Jones’s character, Amelia Rennes, is fictional.)

WHEN IS THE AERONAUTS ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO? WHEN CAN I WATCH THE AERONAUTS ON STREAMING?

If you don’t get a chance to see The Aeronauts in theaters, the good news is the film is coming to Amazon Prime Video very soon. The Aeronauts will be streaming on Amazon Prime on Friday,  December 20, two weeks after it opens in theaters. This small theatrical window is part of Amazon Studios’s new film strategy, which more closely resembles Netflix’s film strategy. A similar release strategy was used for the Steven Soderbergh-produced political drama starring Adam Driver and Annette Bening, The Report.
