But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Adapted from the podcast of the same name from Two-Up Productions, Limetown revolves around a scientific community that mysteriously disappeared overnight. One day they were experimenting and making the world a better place. The next, 300 people vanished. The 10-episode Facebook Watch series follows reporter Lia Haddock (Jessica Biel) as she tries to get to the bottom of what happened. Wondering what Limetown Season 1’s ending meant? Here’s everything you need to know. Spoilers ahead for Limetown Season 1, Episodes 9 and 10.

How Did Limetown Season 1 End? Limetown‘s Season 1 Ending Explained

All throughout Limetown Lia Haddock has been driven by one secretive goal: figuring out what happened to her uncle Emile (Stanley Tucci). That, not the pursuit of the truth, is what has ultimately motivated her to continue interviewing people even as she knows her subjects will be murdered. It’s also what has driven her to put up with mysterious forces threatening her own mother or covering up her murder of her American Public Radio partner. All of this drama has been for Emile. And in Episode 9, Lia finally found him.

Emile meets Lia at a restaurant and tells her exactly what happened. He and his secret telepathic powers were the inspiration for Limetown. He praises Lia for pursuing this story and bringing it to light, as the truth is the only thing that can stop the shadowy people who have been causing these murders. But at the last minute Emile begs Lia to stop pursuing this story. The next interview subject on her list, the mysterious Lenore (Janet Kidder), is the most dangerous person Emile has ever met. Pursuing an interview with her may cause Lia’s death.

Lia, ever the headstrong reporter, decides to go through with the interview anyway and broadcasts the entire interview live on APR. Lenore explains that she used to be the number cruncher for Limetown. While the scientists around her were obsessed with dreams of making a world-changing method of communication, Lenore was responsible for logistically making those dreams a reality. But Lenore was hiding a major secret of her own.

One of the biggest mysteries about this season has revolved around the panic, a mass outcry from the citizens of Limetown that led to them burning Dr. Oskar Totem (Alessandro Juliani) alive before mysteriously disappearing. Lenore finally revealed what happened to all those missing people. The half of the population that had the telepathic implant were relocated using a series of underground tunnels. The other half were murdered and dissolved in acid, Breaking Bad style.

As Lenore tells Lia all of this live and on the air, she takes a pill. She then reveals that she’s going to die in a few minutes and suggests that Lia kill herself as well. This season’s second to last scene shows Lenore dead on a table as a screaming Lia is being taken away by a group of faceless people clothed in black.

Does Lia Haddock Die? Does Jessica Biel Die in Limetown?

That doesn’t seem likely. In the original podcast Lia Haddock is abducted. There are questions about whether Lia is ultimately murdered since Season 2 of the podcast shifts to the perspective of Charlie. But most fans believe that she’s still alive or even more chillingly that she’s actually a survivor of Limetown whose memory was erased.

What’s Going on with Emile?

In Episode 9 we learned that not only is Emilie still alive, he’s been watching Lia this whole time. Clearly Emile still has some sort of relationship with Limetown’s powers that be. The final moments of Season 1 show him walking around in a panic as he begs someone named “Danny” for Lia’s safety. We don’t know who Danny is, but we feel confident that this isn’t the last time we’ll be seeing this uncle and niece.
