‘Cloak and Dagger’ Canceled After Two Seasons on Freeform

The Marvel live-action series Cloak and Dagger has been canceled at Freeform.

The series aired its second season back in April. It followed Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) who are two different kids from very different backgrounds but who find themselves burdened by and awakened to newly discovered superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another.

The series also starred Emma Lahana, Ally Maki, Gloria Reuben, Miles Mussenden, Carl Lundstedt, James Saito, J.D. Evermore, and Jaime Zevallos. It was based on comic characters from books of the same name and was co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Joe Pokaski served as showrunner with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb also executive producing.

News of the cancellation comes after most of Marvel TV’s live-action fare has been canceled or ended within the last year. The only current Marvel TV live-action shows are Runaways at Hulu, which returns for a third season in December, and ABC’s Agents of SHIELD, which is ending after seven seasons this spring. Hulu has ordered the live-action Marvel show Helstrom, while a planned Ghost Rider series at Hulu was recently scrapped.

As Variety reported earlier this week, Loeb is expected to exit his role as the head of Marvel’s TV unit within the next few months, with multiple sources saying that he is shopping for an overall deal. Kevin Feige, the architect of Marvel’s wildly successful cinematic ventures, was recently upped to Chief Creative Officer of Marvel. In his new role, Feige will oversee all television, animation and print editorial operations at Marvel.
