‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 4: When Will It Return?

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3 finale just dropped last week, and fans are already clamoring for more. The dystopian series based on Margaret Atwood’s classic feminist novel follows the journey of June/Offred (Elisabeth Moss), a woman who finds herself enslaved as a concubine in an ultra conservative regime called Gilead. The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 ended on a controversial note, and Season 3 did all it could to both expand the scope of the series and course correct June’s journey. The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3 ends with June putting her own life at risk to spirt 52 children out of Gilead and into Canada.

So what happens next? Is that the end of the story? Will there be more June in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4? Will there even be a Handmaid’s Tale Season 4? Here’s everything we know about a fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Will There Be A Season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale? Will Hulu Make The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4?

Yes! Hulu has already announced that there will be a fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale. Hulu’s Senior Vice President of Originals, Craig Erwich, made the announcement a few weeks ago during the streaming service’s presentation at Summer TCA. The show is still considered one of the biggest hits — both critically and ratings-wise — for Hulu.

When Will The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 Come Out?

Even though Hulu has already announced a fourth season order for The Handmaid’s Tale, we don’t know for sure when it will debut. It will likely debut in 2020. Since the first two seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale came out in April, and the third season debuted in June, we can expect a late spring/summer 2020 premiere date, barring any issues with the production schedule.

So look for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 in 2020.

What Will The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 Be About?

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3 ends on something of a triumphant and tragic note. June’s plan to get 52 children out of Gilead succeeds, but she herself is terribly injured in the process. While this could have been the actual end of June, the last shot of the season sees about a half dozen Handmaids finding June in the woods and carrying her to some sort of safety. This keeps June in Gilead, but what comes next? As Decider’s own Jade Budowski opined, there’s a million directions for the show to follow now, but hopefully the story will be focused more on the characters organizing in Canada than June.
