‘Hyperdrive’ on Netflix: Everything We Know About the Charlize Theron-Produced Reality Racing Series

Netflix recently revealed all the new titles premiering on their platform in August. Along with the third season of GLOW and the fifth and final season of CW favorite Jane the Virgin, the streamer announced the forthcoming arrival of their newest reality racing series Hyperdrive.

Described by executive producer Chris Cowan as “American Ninja Warrior meets Fast and Furious,” the reality competition series features 28 off-the-grid racers bringing their custom built cars to a 100 acre industrial complex that’s home to ten of the most insane race courses imaginable. After a series of intense qualifying rounds, the remaining drivers compete to win the Hyperdrive championship. Buckle up, racing fans.

According to IMDB, Season 1 of Hyperdrive will consist of ten episodes, with each installment ranging from 44-51 minutes in length.

HOW EXACTLY DID CHARLIZE THERON GET INVOLVED?

Hyperdrive executive producer Chris Cowan recently revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Theron was the first call production made when developing the series. Not only that, but the actress “instantly said yes.”

“She was at the top of our list, because I don’t know that there’s a more badass female star out there that can authentically rep this space,” Cowan told EW. “Not only because of her association with the Fast and Furious franchise and Mad Max and all these other films she’s done, but because she kind of grew up tinkering on a farm in South Africa and learned to drive a car at a really young age.”
