‘Veronica Mars’ on Hulu: Catch Up on Seasons 1-3 Before The New Season Drops

Question for the class: Is it worth an estimated 46 hours of your time to catch up on Seasons 1-3 of Veronica Mars before Season 4 hits Hulu on July 26th? Answer: absolutely.

Hey, I get it. You already have a ton of TV to watch and the premiere of Stranger Things Season 3: Strangest Things is just around the corner. With all that said, you will not regret carving out the time to catch up on this bracingly cool teen crime caper noir. Created by the non-musical Rob Thomas, Veronica Mars premiered way back in 2004 on UPN. Lasting for three seasons and producing 64 episodes, the series earned a passionate cult following (endearingly referred to as “Marshmallows”) that simply refused to let the series die. Even the most optimistic fan couldn’t have predicted that the V-Mars faithful would be so committed to a revival that they’d literally pay for it themselves, as a 2013 Kickstarter campaign led to a fan-funded 2014 film.

If you’re on the fence about embarking upon this TV journey — which I completely understand; it’s a substantial time commitment — ask yourself this question: How entertaining does a show have to be to engender this much organic enthusiasm? At its core, Veronica Mars is a fun, extremely well-written series that exudes bravado. From the show’s now iconic theme song to crafting one of the most captivating season-long mysteries in TV history (Season 1’s Lilly Kane whodunit) to showcasing the best father/daughter relationship on television, Veronica Mars needs to be your crazy, sexy, cool noir binge of the summer.

Hmm, I feel as though I might be missing a major selling point here. Oh, right. Ken Marino as rival private investigator Vinnie Van Lowe! And maybe, just maybe, you might be interested in a truly epic love story that belongs in the Brooding Bad Boy Hall of Fame. I’m of course referring to the ballad of Veronica and Logan.

“No one writes songs about the ones that come easy.”

If you’re looking for additional Veronica Mars content, the aforementioned movie is streaming on HBO and the Ryan Hansen-led meta comedy spinoff Play It Again, Dick, is available to rent or buy on YouTube and Amazon.

You don’t have to binge Seasons 1-3 to enjoy the upcoming season, but it will substantially enhance your viewing experience. It’s the summer of Veronica Mars, Marshmallows. Get excited!
