HBO may have removed the infamous coffee cup from Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones, but the mystery lives on. While we may never know who accidentally left their paper cup on the set of Season 8, Episode 4, Emilia Clarke is stepping in with a few suggestions. On Thursday morning, Clarke posted a photo on Instagram of her holding a very similar coffee cup and suggested that the cold brew fiasco could have been her own fault. “Did I just stumble upon the truth here?!” she asked, potentially implicating herself in the greatest mystery since JFK’s assassination. Actually, the FBI should look into Daenerys’ involvement in that one, as well.

After days of finger pointing, Clarke stepped in to clear the air about the coffee gaffe seen ’round the world. “Did I just stumble upon the truth here?!” she wrote alongside a behind-the-scenes photo with Peter Dinklage and Jason Momoa. “The cup bearer does not drinketh the Starbucks tea.” The Game of Thrones star can clearly be seen holding a brown paper cup with a white lid — the same type of cup that was seen during the Targaryen victory party in Sunday’s episode.

Clarke then addressed Momoa’s presence on set (his character died in Season 1) and assured fans that the picture wouldn’t spoil the final two episodes of Season 8. “Oh and this ain’t a spoiler just a lost wanderer coming home for a mid filming cuppa,” she wrote, adding a fire emoji and a few hashtags. #forthethrone #forthecaffeine is a particularly inspired combo, if we do say so ourselves.

The coffee cup in question originally appeared around the 17:38 mark in Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 4, “The Last of the Starks.” Social media lit up with memes — some people even accused Starbucks of paying to have their cup featured in the shot — but by Tuesday morning, HBO decided they could no longer take the joke and digitally removed the cup. What, does humor not exist in Westeros?

It’s admirable that Clarke is acknowledging that she may be responsible for the gaffe — particularly because Game of Thrones fans have been blaming Sophie Turner — but if we’re being honest, her picture really just proves that she likes craft service’s coffee. There’s probably a picture of every single Thrones actor carrying around a similar cup at some point. It could have been anyone — Tormund, Tyrion, Jon, you name it. It could have freaking George R. R. Martin for god’s sakes! Maybe the coffee cup is all part of his master plan to distract people from the fact that he still hasn’t finished those damn books. Yeah, that sounds right.
