Warning: Spoilers for The OA: Part II, Chapter 2: “Treasure Island” ahead.

If you watched the trailer for The OA: Part II, then you know what happens to Brit Marling’s character, aka Prairie, aka The OA: She jumps dimensions. What is less clear is what happens to Jason Isaac’s character, Hap, the evil scientist who held Prairie and four others captive for seven years to study their near-death experiences.

You could watch Season 2 and find out, but let’s be honest, you’re busy. Also, sometimes The OA is hella confusing. So here’s the deal: In the second episode of Season 2, we learn that after dumping Prairie in the middle of nowhere, Hap forced the remaining four captives to perform the movements. Lo and behold, it worked: They all traveled to a new dimension. Everyone wakes up in some sort of medical clinic, all with brand new hair and slightly different faces. (Which, you have to admit, is a clever way to deal with actor-aging after taking a two-year-and-a-half year break between seasons.)

Hap’s consciousness is now in the body of Dr. Percy. Dr. Percy has the same body, name and childhood as Hap. Well, mostly the same body, minus a big, bushy beard that quickly gets shaved off. This version of Hap—Dr. Percy—never became obsessed with near-death experiences. Instead, he became a celebrity psychologist, who just happens to run the mental clinic where Prairie—now in the body of Nina—gets sent after her “breakdown.”

Fellow captives Scott, Renata and Rachel all travel to this new dimension as well, now in the body of patients in Dr. Percy’s care. Scott and Rachel remember everything, but Rachel finds herself unable to speak or communicate in any way. Homer, meanwhile, remembers nothing. In this dimension he is Dr. Homer Roberts, a resident studying under Dr. Percy, for whom he has the utmost respect.

Hap uses this to his advantage, of course. He convinces the rest of the clinic that Scott, Rachel and Prairie/Nina are crazy. He convinces Renata that her memories of being in captivity are false. It’s yet another prison for them, only this time, the cages are legal.  It’s frustrating, sure, but Isaacs is just so good at being bad that we kind of love it.

That’s all we’ll spoil for now. Go enjoy Season 2!
