Chris Christie Says Joe Biden Would Have The Best Chance At Beating Trump In 2020 On ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’

Last night on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie appeared alongside Eric Idle, Natasha Bertrand, Malcolm Nance and Jack Kingston during the show’s “Overtime” segment. Christie, who served the GOP during his reign, not only spoke very highly of Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders but also declared that Joe Biden would have the best chance at beating Donald Trump in the 2020 election.

When asked if Christie thinks that there are any Democrats who have his signature “in-your-face approach” to dealing with the opposition, the former governor remarked: “well no, thank God no.”

“I think Bernie has a little bit of that. You know, Bernie doesn’t back down to anybody and when Bernie’s got a point of view, he’s gonna say it and he doesn’t really sugarcoat anything. So I think Sanders is one of those people.”

Then, speaking about the 2020 election, Maher asked “Who do you think is the Democrats best choice to run in 2020?” to which Christie replied: “I think the one that the President would be most afraid of if he can stay in his lane is Biden.

And the reason why is Biden could go to Ohio and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and Michigan and appeal to white working class voters. And if he does that, he only has to peel off 7,000-10,000 votes in each one of those states, and he only has to win two of them.”

“But there’s many states and he’s not going to excite the base anywhere,” Maher interjected. “Yeah, well he’s not going to excite the base, but you know what, that base gets a little too excited and it’s going to drive away the rest of the middle of the country because some of the stuff that the base is talking about is not going to be appealing to the middle of the country.

And this is the same mistake that Democrats have made in a number of different elections where they say ‘this is great, we love it’ but they don’t care about what the middle of the country thinks, they care about the two coasts.”

Former Trump campaign adviser Jack Kingston also appeared on the show and was ridiculed for his unwavering support for the President. He spoke about the proposed “wall” on the US-Mexico border and how $5.7 billion is “lunch money” compared to what we spend on the military. He also blasted Sen. Chuck Schumer for also once shutting down the government for 3 days but now being a hypocrite and bashing Trump for doing the same.

Maher quickly disagreed with Kingston. Just because $5.7 billion doesn’t compare to the rest of the money our government spends “doesn’t mean we should spend it on something stupid,” he replied, to which the audience applauded.
