It’s the Right Time to Watch ‘The Wrong Mans’ on Hulu

There have been so many damn original series across every streaming platform, it is actually impossible to keep track of them all. And while you may have missed one of Hulu’s earliest, The Wrong Mans, it is currently the perfect time to watch this brilliant series.

Premiering in 2013, co-created by and starring (an unknown Stateside) James Corden and Mathew Baynton, The Wrong Mans is described as a comedy/adventure but each of the six half-hour episodes has nearly every single genre you could imagine. It’s a drama, it’s a thriller, it’s a romance, and it’s excellent all the way through.

The show’s first teaser trailer (above) is amazing on more than one level. First, making fun of Hulu in 2013 was funny, but watching them making fun of Hulu now in 2018 is even funnier, as the streaming platform has become a total giant. Second, that is a perfect teaser for this show. A devastating accident, a bewildered guy, a ringing cellphone, the threat, “If you’re not here by five o’clock, we will kill your wife,” WHAT! If you aren’t hooked at that point, go back and watch it again because that’s some compelling stuff right there.

And so here’s why you’ve gotta watch this show right now: it’s the perfect binge. Season 1 is six half-hour episodes and Season 2 is only four! You can watch the whole thing in about 5 hours, and once you start, you won’t be able to stop. Every episode will have you wanting more. Which is precisely what Showtime was thinking when they ordered a US version of the show set to premiere in 2019. Corden and Baynton will write and produce the series, and director Jim Field Smith will also return for this version, but Ben Schwartz will star as Baynton’s character Sam, and in a stroke of excellent casting, Jillian Bell will play a version of Corden’s Phil. The show is set to premiere on Showtime in 2019, so be sure to binge this one now as we all like to be the person that can claim, “Oh yeah, I’ve already seen the original version of that.”

I’ve been writing and talking about this show for five years now and showing no signs of stopping, clearly. Very few shows have proven to be this thoroughly entertaining, surprising, and just all around enjoyable. I’m looking forward to the Showtime version which I’m sure will hold up and continue that tradition, but I also cherish these original episodes and can’t recommend them enough to others. Now go and make the right decision and watch The Wrong Mans.
