Comedian and international man of mystery Mike Myers was on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night, and talk turned to the recent passing of actor Verne Troyer. The actor, who played Mini-Me in the Austin Powers movies, died on April 21st at the age of 49. Myers remembered his co-star — who stood 2 feet 8 inches tall as a result of cartilage–hair hypoplasia and was not, as Myers explained, expected to live even into his 20s — fondly , as a man who everybody was instantly drawn to.

“Verne was a fantastic human being,” Myers said. “As written, Mini-Me is almost a prop. But he brought it off of the page and made it better than written. And we just ended up giving him more and more stuff to do.”

One particular story involved Myers making a visit to the Obama White House for a state dinner with Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau. (Myers being an unofficial ambassador from Canada makes perfect sense as a guest in this regard.) Myers said that both Barack Obama and Justin Trudeau asked “How’s Mini-Me?” within minutes of greeting him.

“Verne brought so much love to people,” Myers said.
