Tim and Eric’s ‘Billion Dollar Movie’ Is The Best Comedy You’ve Never Seen

Those who are dedicated fans of comedy duo Tim & Eric have most likely already seen their 2012 film, Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie. For those who haven’t, we’re eager to make you aware of the best movie you’ve never seen. The feature-length title, which was a diversion from their typical 20-minute Adult Swim fare, brought Tim Heidecker & Eric Wareheim’s unique blend of humor to the big screen and featured a number of noteworthy cameos.

The premise of the movie centers around two filmmakers who are given a whopping $1 billion budget provided by Tommy Schlaaang (Robert Loggia) and the Schlaaang Corporation to create a movie of their own (within the movie). SPOILER ALERT! The 3-minute film they end up creating, titled Bonjour, Diamond Jim, ends up being a complete flop after they spend most of their funds on real diamonds for Diamond Jim’s suit, personal makeovers, and their spiritual guru Jim Joe Kelly’s (Zach Galifianakis) $500,000-per-week salary.

Tim & Eric spend the remainder of the film trying to earn back the $1 billion they were given to avoid the wrath of Tommy Schlaaang. They answer an ad to renovate the abandoned S’Wallow Valley Mall run by Damien Weebs (Will Ferrell) under a business moniker they formulate dubbed Dobis P.R. (do-business). They run into many obstacles along the way that ultimately prevent them for paying back the depleted funds and end up in a brutal gun fight with the Schlaaang Corporation from which they emerge victorious (although they are sentenced to death for murder). Aside from the aforementioned, the film’s supporting cast includes John C. Reilly, Ray Wise, Twink Caplan, Will Forte and Jeff Goldblum, all of whom are personal friends and/or had previously appeared in the duo’s Adult Swim series Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!

In the end, the film reveals that the entire movie was actually a film itself (the “Billion Dollar Movie”) that Tim & Eric had been premiering to a faux Steven Spielberg (played by actor Howie Slater who declares it the greatest movie ever made. This assessment is followed by a goofy theater party in typical Tim & Eric fashion with a number of their past and present co-stars such as David Liebe Hart.

Overall, the film, which was produced by Tim & Eric themselves along with Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Dave Kneebone, is a true celebration of an off-brand style of niche cult humor that so many viewers still look for in shows like The Eric Andre Show, Check It Out!, with Dr. Steve Brule, and Tim & Eric’s Bedtime Stories. So, whether you have or haven’t seen the film already, we’d advise that you watch “the greatest movie ever made” as soon as possible. It’s currently available to stream via Amazon Video’s Magnolia Selects channel, which you can acquire for an additional $4.99/month.
