Woman Crush Wednesday: Just Getting A Jumpstart On Our 2018 Raging Obsession With Zazie Beetz

We’ve done some pretty hard-core crushing in 2017, but we’re getting a head start on a lady that is sure to be one of our biggest crushes of 2018. Today’s Woman Crush Wednesday is the one and only Zazie Beetz.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Zazie Beetz

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: First of all, can we just acknowledge what an incredibly dope name that is? It’s only fitting that the name matches an actress this unique. Zazie is one of those actors that brings such a natural, effortless on-screen presence to any and all of the projects she’s in. It never feels like she’s forcing it or trying too hard — she’s just a genuine performer who’s tapped into a really cool vulnerability and openness on camera. She feels like someone you could totally know in your own life, with only the smallest reminders that she’s cooler than most of the humans on this planet.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: The German-born and Manhattan-raised actress got her start in local theater productions and a handful of short films before she popped up in 2015’s Applesauce and 2016’s Wolves with Michael Shannon. She’s also landed roles in the films Finding Her, Sollers Point, and Geostorm.

Zazie is best known as Vanessa in Atlanta, Earn’s (Donald Glover) ex and also the woman he shares a young child with. She’s proven to be the perfect on-screen match to the creator and star of the FX series, as the two hit upon that all-too-real chemistry you have with someone who once was (and always will be) an important part of your life.

This year, Zazie shined in her return to Joe Swanberg’s anthology series Easy on Netflix. Opposite Dave Franco and Aya Cash, she gives a relatable vibe to Noelle, a woman who is learning to balance mom stuff, relationship stuff, and being a business owner stuff all at once.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: The good news is that she’ll be back in Atlanta for season two in 2018, yay! The bad news is we’re not quite exactly sure when. But that’s okay, because the critically acclaimed series certainly won’t be the only place to see this woman. She’s also got the films The Undiscovered Country, Slice, and Dead Pigs on tap for the year. Oh, and she signed on for the sequel to some indie movie called Deadpool, ever heard of it? Zazie will step into the butt-kicking boots of Domino for the Ryan Reynolds flick that is due out in June. Someone tell Dr. Dre’s headphones to move over, 2018 belongs to an even cooler Beetz.
