Are you a fan of a classic Christmas film? Does seeing people come together and celebrate the birth of Jesus make you all warm and fuzzy, even if it’s ridiculously cheesy? Ain’t no shame in enjoying a soapy Hallmark or Lifetime movie this year. Pottersville, now streaming on Netflix, is none of these things. It is a completely baffling film inexplicably stocked with stars like Michael Shannon, Ian McShane, Judy Greer, Christina Hendricks, and Ron Perlman. One can only imagine that this list of stars saw something in the script that didn’t quite translate to the big screen – but it’s here anyway. And it’s the kind of movie you have to see to believe.

Is it the insane premise that involves Academy Award-nominated actor Michael Shannon being mistaken for Bigfoot during a drunken romp in an improvised gorilla costume that makes Pottersville so utterly mystifying? The ensuing media storm that ends up saving this small town from its hard times due to an increase in tourism? The strangely goodhearted nature at its core? The fact that Michael Shannon looks just as shocked to be in this film as we are to see him in it? Or the fact that it exists at all?

Don’t let us keep trying to Pottersville-splain this movie to you. The Bigfoot’s out of the bag. Go stream the most bewildering holiday movie of all time on Netflix… right now.
